To the Southern side of the river Thunga is the scenic NrisimhaVana where the Ashrama of the Jagadgurus of Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetam is situated.  This region was originally a forest until the beginning of the 20th century.  The 33rd Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharathi Mahaswamiji used to visit this place and sit on a rock here in meditation.  Observing this, the then sarvadhikari of the Mutt cleared this area and had a small building constructed here for the stay of the holy Acharya.  The area was also named as Nrisimha Vana.  By the passage of time, extensive clearance of the forest took place here and the building was also enlarged and named ‘Sri Sacchidananda Vilas’.

It became the permanent abode of the Acharyas.  As the inflow of devotees increased day by day, Sacchidananda Vilas could not accommodate all the devotees coming for the Darshan.  So, a decade ago, another majestic and spacious building namely ‘Guru Niwas’ was constructed and it serves as the ashram as well as the puja hall.  The Samadhi Shrines of the 33rd, 34th and the 35th Jagadgurus are also situated in Nrisimha Vana.  These apart, the Tapasvi Kuteera, the Veda Patashala, Shankara Advaita Research Centre, Sri Veda Vyasa Shrine, Sri Kalabhairava Shrine, the Go Shala (cow-shed), the Gajashala (elephant-shed) and an Ashwashala (horse-shed) are also situated in Nrisimha Vana.
